Centerpieces For A Hawaiian Theme Party

Make creative centerpieces for your Hawaiian-themed party with items such as leis.

Hawaiian parties, or luaus, call for colorful and fun decorations. Create centerpieces that are playful and creative and go along with your party's theme. Centerpieces for a Hawaiian-themed party don't have to be expensive or elaborate. Flowers, fruits, traditional luau decorations and plenty of other items make for great table centerpieces. Does this Spark an idea?

Fruit

Create centerpieces that your guests can nibble on while they sit at your tables. Choose large fruits with sturdy rinds, such as watermelons and pineapples. Cut the fruit and hollow it out, so that its rind becomes a bowl. If you use a pineapple, leave the green head on for a decorative touch. Then, fill the rind with bright pieces of fruit. Include food such as watermelon, pineapple, kiwi, mango and cantaloupe. Surround the base of the bowl with smaller fruits, such as lemons, limes and oranges.

Favors

If you are giving your party guests favors, let the favors become your table centerpieces. Choose baskets or bowls in bright colors. Then fill the bowls with your party favors. You could choose items such as Hawaiian leis, sand dollars, picture frames with sea shells decorating the frames or candles and bath items with tropical scents. Place a small sign next to the bowls telling your guests to take an item.

Sea Shells

Purchase an assortment of sea shells at your local craft store. Purchase a plain white dinner plate or other inexpensive platter. Then use a hot glue gun to place the seashells around the rim of the plate. Inside the plate, put a layer of sand, which you can buy at the craft store. Use plain white sand or a color that coordinates with your party decorations. On the sand, place simple votive candles. Light them just before guests begin arriving.

Water

Water is a big part of life in Hawaii, so use that with your table centerpieces. Purchase glass bowls from your craft or party store. If your tables are different sizes, choose larger bowls for larger tables and smaller ones for the small tables. Place marbles at the bottom of the bowl in a color that coordinates with the rest of your party decor. Then fill the bowl with water. You can even dye the water with food coloring if you want to. Float a votive candle or two in the water. Place more candles around the base of the bowl. The flames will reflect off the water for a nice effect. If you don't like the candle idea, skip the food coloring in the water and place colorful fish in the bowls. Ask an expert at your local pet store which fish would be best for the size of the bowls. Guests who want a new pet can take the centerpiece home with them.
