Food Suggestions For A Baby Shower

Finding food to satisfy a mom-to-be and guests can be tricky.

Preparing food for a baby shower can be a handful, but with a few expert recipes, the food can be one of the fun parts of your guests' experience. Baby-themed desserts, such as a cake in the shape of building blocks, are a popular choice. Finger foods allow people to circulate and try different things while celebrating the mom-to-be. Baby Center recommends desserts for an evening party and snacks for an afternoon party. Does this Spark an idea?

Quiche

Quiche is an easy people-pleaser at a baby shower, and it is popular with chefs because it can be made the night before and stored in the fridge overnight. Baby Center and Home and Garden Television (HGTV) both recommend quiche for a baby shower. Chefs can make any kind of quiche they want, while keeping in mind the guest of honor's food preferences and pregnancy needs.

Baby Block Cake by Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart recommends a baby block cake for a baby shower. It consists of a dozen small square cakes that look like baby building blocks, decorated with numbers, letters and animal pictures. After baking a regular cake, Stewart's guide teaches bakers to trim the edges of the cake to make it square. The cake is then cut into 12 smaller squares, though you may have to double the recipe if you have more guests. Each square should be about 2.5 square inches in size--the perfect size for each baby shower guest to have one. Bakers can decorate each cake block with fondant and royal icing.

Spiced Blueberry Soup

For a soon-to-be mother expecting a baby boy, MSN's "Delish" website recommends serving spiced blueberry soup. It contains blueberries, honey, ginger, cardamom pods and a cinnamon stick, along with basic ingredients such as milk. The recipe includes a small bit of sour cream to swirl in a fun pattern at the end. Chefs can top with blueberries for garnish.

Alphabet Cookies

Cookies are an easy recipe for any party, but cutting them into alphabet shapes makes them perfect for a baby shower. Martha Stewart recommends using a cookie recipe with cinnamon and honey, but every baker can decide for herself what type of cookie her guests will prefer. After preparing the cookie dough, bakers use alphabet cutters to shape the cookies before popping them in the oven. (See Ref. 4)

Strawberry Cupcakes

Pink cupcakes suit baby showers celebrating the birth of a girl. MSN's "Delish" website recommends strawberry cupcakes, made from chopped strawberries, milk, eggs and cake mix, topped with strawberry frosting and a strawberry slice as garnish. Bakers can also add pink and white sprinkles for additional charm.
