Fun Family Trip Ideas

Plan age appropriate activities for kids along the trip.

Traveling with family allows you to create memories that will be remembered for a lifetime. Whether the trip is with your immediate family, or you are including extended family, having fun together is the ultimate goal. Think about the hobbies and interests of your family and determine what might be a family trip that they will cherish forever.

Europe

Europe is not only rich with history, but many Americans have family heritage that can be traced to those countries. Create a family trip to Europe that not only includes the major attractions in London, Paris, Rome and Madrid, but also explores the cities and towns where your family originated. Plan your European vacation for the off-season, such as over Christmas, to receive cheaper rates on flights and hotels. Also, much of Europe is accessible on Eurorail, which saves money trying to fly separately to each country. Try to stay 10 to 14 days so that you can experience the traditions of multiple regions and countries.

Disney

One of the most popular family destinations within the United States and throughout the World are the Walt Disney parks. In the United States, parks are located in Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California. There are a myriad of parks within the Disney family such as The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, California Adventure and water parks such as Blizzard Beach. Disney also offers a myriad of hotels throughout their resort property.

Cross Country Camping

The great American road trip allows family members to experience many sites throughout the country all on one trip. Rent a camper and reserve campground space across the country. Common places to visit across the country are major cities such as New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco among others. Other sites to see include Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon and Yosemite national parks, among others. Craft the trip based on your family's interests. For instance, if they love football, you might stop off at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Skiing

Skiing is an activity that allows people to participate at many levels. Children just starting out can make their way to the bunny slope, while experts can hit the double black diamonds to test their skill. Popular ski locations across the United States are in Vermont, New Hampshire, Utah, Colorado and California. When renting a place, look to find a timeshare or condo which can suit your whole family. Multiday passes are a bargain if you are skiing at the same mountain several days in a row. Be sure to book your family ski vacation in advance because lodging around popular ski locations tends to book quickly.
