Grow flowers on trellises to add color to a backyard wedding.
Enhance the intimacy of a small backyard wedding with a variety of floral decorations accompanying the beauty of the outdoor setting. After choosing floral arrangements for tables, consider decorating patios, steps, hand railings, sidewalks, driveways and trees with floral displays. From hanging garland, to special wedding flowerbeds, it's simple to turn a backyard into a magical wedding destination with flowers.
Hanging Display
Imagine walking down a shady country lane under cascades of flower garland draped from historic oak trees, leading to a backyard wedding. Forgo the single hue greenery of the leaves, and add a touch of your wedding colors by having blossoms strung into garland. Simply grab a ladder, and pretend you're decorating for the winter holidays. If electrical outlets are near the trees, consider wrapping the flower garland around strings of twinkling white lights.
Coordinating Trellises and Flowerbeds
Use the backyard location to your advantage, and plant flowers that coordinate with the wedding flowers. If the bride is carrying a nosegay or red roses, use trellises and flowerbeds to plant coordinating roses. Transform the backyard into a rose garden for the event, but position the gardens away from where people will sit for the duration of the ceremony. You don't want wedding guests fighting off buzzing bees. Place the gardens along the entryway to the wedding area or in an area where people can mingle before or after the ceremony.
Steps and Handrails
Sprinkle flower petals on steps to add color and coordinate with the outdoor wedding theme. Drape garlands of flowers along handrails, or tie bouquets on each end of the handrail with draped tulle connecting the two arrangements. Consider placing large outdoor flowerpots at the top or bottom of the steps. Plant flowers in the pots several weeks before the wedding so that they thrive on your wedding day.
Patios and Driveways
Transform flat, solid surfaces in the backyard into miniature flower gardens. Start by renting or purchasing silk flowering trees. String white holiday lights among the branches to add a twinkle to an evening event. Use tulle to cover the pots. Use the trees to create a perimeter, or line a walkway, to guide guests to the backyard. Accent the trees with a mixture of potted plants in various sizes. Cluster the pots together at the bases of the trees, creating multi-levels of flower blooms.
