An Adult Birthday Party Planning Checklist

Make a checklist to cover all aspects of the adult party planning.

Kids shouldn't have all the fun. Throwing a birthday party for an adult honors her special day with food, entertainment and good company. Many aspects go into the planning process for any birthday party. A checklist for an adult birthday party ensures that all of the major planning aspects are covered. Customize the checklist to your specific party. Does this Spark an idea?

Guest List

The guest list is an important consideration early on in the party planning. The number of guests influences many other party planning aspects, including the venue, menu, and party activities. Create a guest list based on the guest on honor's preferences. If it is a surprise party, work with someone close to the honoree to make sure that no one is left off of the list. There is a good chance at least some of the invited guests won't be able to attend. Send out the invitations early so you have a final count to finalize the other plans.

Location & Date

Scheduling the party is also an early step you need to consider. Consider the schedules of your guests. You won't be able to accommodate all of the guests when it comes to scheduling. If you have a lot of parents on the list, consider when they can easily get a babysitter. If many of your guests attend church activities on a particular day, avoid scheduling the party at the same time. Also, consider other community events or holidays that might interfere with guests attending.

The location should depend on the number of guests and the timing of the party. Choose a venue with plenty of space to accommodate the number of guests on your list. Reserve the location as soon as you select the date to ensure it is open.

Theme & Decorations

Adding a theme to the adult birthday party makes the planning easier. Use the theme to make decisions about decorations, activities and the menu. Consider the guest of honor's tastes when selecting a theme. A themed party also gives the guests a chance to come in costume. For example, if you throw an 80s party, the guests could wear a ruffly, taffeta prom dress or an 80s hair band costume. Decide how many decorations you want to include at the party. Table centerpieces offer a simple decorating option. For a more elaborate option, add decorations on the wall as well.

Menu

The party food is often one of the biggest expenses at a party. Set your food budget before you select the menu to help narrow down the options. If you're holding the birthday party at a banquet hall or other facility, they likely have a catering service you must use. Work with the caterers to find a menu that fits your theme and budget. If you're hosting the party at home, choose a menu that fits the theme of the party. If you're hosting a Mexican fiesta birthday, have a taco and nacho bar. A Vegas-style buffet works well for a casino-themed party.

Entertainment

The entertainment at the adult birthday party keeps the guests from getting bored. The location of the party and the theme can influence the types of activities that work well. Some venues such as bowling alleys have built-in entertainment you can use. Other venues require you to plan the entertainment. Ideas for an adult birthday party include dancing, live music, games or competitions.
