Barbie Party Game Ideas

Get out the pink balloons and organize games for the Barbie birthday party.

Barbie celebrated her 50th anniversary in 2009 and she is still as beloved as ever. If your daughter wants a Barbie birthday party, choose from a plethora of themes, including professional Barbie and fashion and style. Just as Barbie themes are numerous, so are the variety of games you can organize. Encourage all girls to partake and award prizes based on participation alone in addition to honoring the winners. Does this Spark an idea?

Scavenger Hunt

Find pictures of different Barbie dolls on the Internet or in coloring books. For example, you could print pictures of Princess Fairy, Thumbelina, So-In-Style, Computer Engineer, Pet Vet and Mermaid Barbie. Color the pictures with the help of the birthday girl and hang them around your house. Provide each guest a list of the Barbie pictures to find. You can include clues, such as "Computer Engineer Barbie is in a room where you powder your nose." Instruct the kids to write down where they found each picture. Award a small prize to each participant once they finish the hunt.

What's Missing?

Place several Barbie-related items on a tray including Barbie dolls, pets, clothes and accessories. For younger kids use 10 items and for older girls lay out 20 items. Allow guests to take a good look at all of the items on the tray. Ask one child at a time to leave the room. Remove two or three items from the tray and ask the child to come back in the room. She must guess which items are missing. Allow each girl to have a chance to play.

Pass the Princess Wand

Ask children to sit or stand in a circle. Give the birthday girl a princess wand and start the music. Consider playing a Barbie-themed song, such as "The Nutcracker". When the music stops, the player holding the wand is out until the next round. The last player remaining wins a prize. An alternative way to play the game incorporates charades. When the music stops, the girl holding the wand must act out her favorite Barbie character; the other girls must guess who she is pretending to be.

Fashion Show

Ask each girl to bring their Barbie doll to the party. Have some extra Barbie dolls on hand just in case. Provide the girls with baskets of Barbie clothes and accessories. Consider incorporating retro Barbie clothes from your childhood as well. Tell the girls they are going to dress up their Barbie dolls for a fashion show. Once they are ready, play music and allow them to walk their Barbie dolls down the "cat walk." Award each girl a prize based on particular categories, such as "most glamorous", "most professional" and "most sporty".
