Assembly Instructions For Yamaha Drum Sets

Yamaha Drums is a division of the globally-successful Yamaha Corporation. Yamaha offers acoustic and electronic drum kits, as well as a range of other percussion instruments from marimbas to maracas. Yamaha acoustic drum kits come in different models and configurations, but setting up a basic Yamaha drum kit -- typically, including four or five drums in total -- follows the same pattern as other kinds of acoustic kit.

Instructions

1. Fit each drum with a drum head on the upper side. Also known as the "batter head," the drum head is attached to the side of each drum which faces uppermost when the drum is placed on the floor with the Yamaha logo right-side up. Place the drum head over each drum's bearing edge; lay a metal hoop on top of the head, and insert a key rod through each hole in the drum hoop and into the adjacent lug. Using your drum key, tighten each key rod so that the tension at each is equal and the drum head is in tune.

2. Fit each drum with a lower-side or "resonant" drum head, using the same steps for the batter head. Typically, the resonant head will be thinner and lighter-weight than the batter head. Some drummers prefer not to use resonant heads at all, leaving the lower side of the drum open.

3. Set up the bass drum of the kit. Angle the metal spurs attached to the bass drum into the floor so that the resonant side of the bass drum is slightly elevated from the floor. Attach the bass-drum pedal on the batter side of the bass drum -- there will typically be an indent in the bass-drum hoop to which the pedal clamps.

4. Position the smallest tom tom to the left of center, over the bass drum, as you face the bass drum from the side with the pedal attached. Position the medium-sized tom tom to the right of center as you face the same direction. These two tom toms, collectively known as "rack" toms, may be held in place by metal arms which mount directly into the bass drum, or by "floating" or "hanging" hardware attached to cymbal stands. Alternatively, each tom tom may be mounted on a snare-drum stand.

5. Mount the snare drum on its designated stand, and place it on the floor to the left of the bass-drum pedal, closer to you than the batter head of the snare drum. Attach the floor tom's three metal legs, and place this tom on the floor to the right of the bass-drum pedal.
