About Graduation
Parties
A graduation party is a celebration of accomplishments, of years of hard work and labor. It is a celebration where loved ones and close friends are involved in the planning, hosting and partaking. Food, drinks, songs, dances and speeches are part of a graduation party. It is a day to honor the graduates and to mark a new beginning in their lives.
The Facts
Education is one of the goals people pursue. It is something that people invest time and money in to help achieve a better future. One's quest for education runs from preschool to high school and on to collegiate and postgraduate studies. Students spend many hours of learning to get a quality education, knowing in the end a diploma is waiting for them. When graduation day finally arrives, it calls for some form of celebration, whether a simple one or something extravagant, to celebrate finishing the race and mark the beginning of a new chapter in life.
Type
A graduation party is not restricted with certain types. Like other parties, one can celebrate this great occasion either simply or lavishly. From a simple cocktail party to a buffet or formal sit-down meal, a graduation party is worth remembering. It can be a surprise party or a party whereby the graduate is involved in the planning. A simple barbecue party in the backyard gives an opportunity for graduates to bask in their glories. Some parents who have the money celebrate at big restaurants, halls, hotels or hire caterers to their homes. Either way, parents and graduates beam with pride during the memorable occasion. Friends, acquaintances, family members and relatives, classmates and teachers are usually among the invited.
Time Frame
A graduation party typically happens right after graduation day. It can be on the same day or a few days after the graduation has ended. People who are invited that would come from another city, state or country should be given a heads-up so they can prepare to travel and take some time off from work if need be. The party could be anytime of the day: daytime for brunches, lunches and tea parties; nighttime for dinner and cocktail parties.
Significance
What makes graduation parties different is that they celebrate the fulfillment of a lifetime career goal. It takes a long time to achieve this goal and it only happens once, maybe a few times, in a person's life. Graduates went through the difficult trials and obstacles along the way to their goal.
Risk Factors
There are some risks involved in having graduation parties, especially when alcohol is involved. People who had been drinking heavily during graduation parties would either end up in a fight that can land them in jail or in a car accident that can cause bodily harm to them and others. Binge drinking happens on college campuses and at frat houses when the parties go out of control. It is important for organizers to control the amount of alcohol to serve and not to give the car key to someone who is evidently drunk.
