Activities For A 70s Birthday Party

Throw a 1970s-era themed birthday party to celebrate someone who was born in the decade or someone who was "in their prime" at that time. This groovy decade was all about variety, so incorporate activities such as fun costumes, disco balls and popular '70s music. Does this Spark an idea?

Costume Contest

When sending out invitations, encourage (or require!) all guests to wear their wildest 1970s garb. Guests dress as their favorite television character from the decade, such as Marsha Brady or as Shaggy and Scooby-Doo. Partygoers also arrive dressed as if they just stepped out of the famed Studio 54 nightclub, complete with platform shoes, glitter, decade-appropriate hairstyles and plenty of gold chains. Hold a costume contest and award party favors for the "Best Dressed," "Most Creative" and "Most Authentic."

Dance Party

No '70s-themed party would be complete without a lively dance party to popular music during that time. For this activity, download songs or get out your old record player and dance to tunes by artists like ABBA, the Bee Gees, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Chicago and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Take time to prepare the song list and your guests will appreciate dancing down memory lane while celebrating a birthday. Rent a disco ball and turn it on when the dance party really starts groovin'.

Sassy Games

When was the last time any of your guests played Twister or Spin the Bottle? What about the last time they took a chance with the eerie Ouija board? These are fun and classic 1970s games that your guests and the birthday celebrant will get a kick out of playing. Twister and Ouija boards can still be found in stores if you don't have the originals.
