It is always pleasant to receive a well-written invitation.
A wedding is an important milestone in the life of a couple. It also signfies a big event for the family members and friends. That is why a lot of effort should be put into sending the right wedding invitations. There are a number of options you can choose to design your invitations, depending on your family culture and traditions.
Formal Invitations
Formal invitations were the norm for many decades. They are typically printed on high-quality white paper. Formal invitations are written in the third person, and refer to the guest in a formal way--Mr., Ms. or Mrs. Formal invitations also use the full formal names of the hosts. An an example of a formal invitation reads like this:
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
request the pleasure of
[guest's name]
at the marriage of their daughter Anna Katherine
to Mr. John Michael Brown
at St. Mary's Church, Springfield
on Saturday 17th September
at 1.30 o'clock
and afterwards at
The Hilton Hotel
Informal Invitations
Informal invitations have become more common as young couples plan their own weddings. They omit formal titles such as Mr. and Mrs., and are more relaxed in tone. For example:
Anna Katherine Smith
and
John Michael Brown
invite you to share in their love and happiness
as they exchange vows of marriage
and begin their new life together
at St. Mary's Church, Springfield
on Saturday 17th September
at 1:30 o'clock
and afterwards at
The Hilton Hotel
Rhymed Invitations
Rhymed or partly-rhymed invitations are interesting to write and read. They set a light-hearted atmosphere for the wedding. You can rhyme a few lines or create all of your invitation's wording in the style of a poem. Here's an example of the beginning of a rhymed invitation from MyExpression.com:
When we first met,
Neither was ready to take the next step.
But despite the many tribulations,
We gather here for our special celebration.
Today, in this house of God's great glory
Our separate stories
Will become one
Which cannot be undone.
