Wedding showers are as varied as brides' tastes, with bridal showers just for the bride and her female friends, and couples' showers that include the groom and male family members. The type of wedding shower you host dictates the type of invitation you should choose. If your wedding shower features a theme, then you can carry that theme through to the invitations. Traditional Bridal Shower
The traditional bridal shower gathers the bride, her maid of honor and bridesmaids, female relatives and close female friends. Theme Shower
If you choose a theme for your wedding shower, make sure your invitation reflects that theme so that guests know what to expect. Often, the theme--like a kitchen shower or lingerie shower--dictates the type of gift guests should bring, so the invitation can help guide their gift purchase. If the bride loves to cook and you're hosting a kitchen wedding shower, then choose an invitation featuring a collage of kitchen utensils on it. Wording can ask guests to "Help stock Margie's kitchen before she gets hitched." A lingerie shower, often thrown in conjunction with the bachelorette party, gives the bride sexy items to enjoy on her honeymoon. Choose an invitation in the shape or a corset or high heel, and ask guests to "Join us for a lingerie shower to get Tina ready for her honeymoon."
Couple's Shower
A couple's wedding shower honors the bride and groom. Often organized more like a party than a classic shower, the couple's shower can take on a variety of themes. Everything from a backyard barbecue to a Mexican fiesta or Hawaiian luau creates a party atmosphere for couples' showers, and invitations should reflect the theme. Choose a grill-shaped invitation for a barbecue shower, a sombrero for a fiesta or a coconut-shaped invitation for a luau. Invite guests to "Join us for a couples shower honoring Mandy and Luke" on the invitation. Personalize couples' shower invitations further by including a digital image of the happy couple on the invitation.
