Finger Foods For A Fourth Of July Party

Find the perfect party food to celebrate Independence Day.

Putting together a collection of finger foods for a Fourth of July party can be an expression of creativity. Use foods that incorporate the red, white and blue of the American flag or foods that evoke a sense of Americana. By creatively combining the two, you can create a menu that is varied and patriotic. Does this Spark an idea?

Fruit Shish Kebabs

Typically, when people think of shish kebabs, they think of meats and vegetables that have been skewered and grilled. For these Fourth of July shish kebabs, however, use a variety of red, white and blue fruit. Red fruits you can choose from include strawberries, watermelons and cherries. White fruits can include bananas, white peaches and pears. Blue fruits are a little more difficult to find but you can use blueberries, plums and figs. Skewer the fruit in alternating colors and serve with blueberry or strawberry cream cheese dip or a white yogurt dip.

Cake Pops

Cake pops have become a baking phenomenon with endless taste combinations and decorating variations. Choose your favorite icing and cake combination to create the balls and then dip them melted candy coating and decorate them with a patriotic theme. You could make the cake balls red, white and blue or you could make them all one color and cover them in red, white and blue sprinkles. Sticking them on lollipop sticks makes a traditional cake pop, or serve them like truffles laid out as an American flag.

Chips and Dip

When hosting a Fourth of July party you do not want to settle for just any chip and dip combo. Make yours festive by purchasing blue corn tortilla chips and mixing them with the more traditional white chips. Serve the chips next to a bowl of red salsa. Use a red and white or blue and white bowl for the chips and a white bowl for the salsa to create a greater visual impact.

Americana

Americana foods include any foods that are representative of American culture. Items commonly grouped in this category include apple pie, hot dogs and popcorn. You can create easy-to-eat finger food versions of these all-American foods. Instead of apple pie, serve individual apple turnovers. Instead of putting hot dogs on a bun, make miniature crescent dogs. Rather than putting out a large bowl of popcorn, place servings in disposable blue drink cups and sprinkle with red pepper flakes or paprika.
