In considering discounted Hawaii travel, remember that packages based in Honolulu tend to be cheapest, since air travel to Oahu is the most heavily discounted. And an abundance of hotel rooms means many budget chains are cutting prices even further. All inclusive vacations can save more money if you are a heavy eater and plan to take most meals at your hotel.
Comparing fares
Kayak.com compares travel sites for flights, hotels and car rentals. You don't buy directly from the site; you have to go to an airline's website or other travel site to purchase tickets. It also finds package deals on other sites. One caveat: when you buy hotel rooms from a site other than the hotel's website, the purchase may not be refundable if your vacation changes.
Oahu Discount
If you are looking for a discount hotel, you will generally save more money the further you are from the beach. If the inconvenience doesn't bother you, you will find big discounts. The Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber, for example, is half a mile from the Waikiki Beach, but you can get rooms through December 21, 2010, for as little as $79 a night. Rates include free Wi-Fi and there is no resort fee.

Maui Discount
If you can use miles for a free flight to Maui, you can find some good deals there. The Best Western Pioneer Inn had a rate of $119 through June 30, 2010, including parking. The family friendly hotel lets kids 12 and under stay free, and has refrigerators in rooms. The hotel also has a large outdoor pool.
