Family Christmas Card Ideas

Christmas cards

Christmas cards have, for generations, been an important tradition during the holiday season. With so many families dispersed to different parts of the country or the world, Christmas cards help maintain family ties and affections, letting your loved ones know that despite the physical distance between you, you can still share the holidays with each other.

Family Montage Christmas Card

Create a touching family Christmas card made up of a montage of images from Christmases past. Create this type of card using a program like Microsoft's Paint program. Create a new document in this program and name it. Bring in your photos (once they have been saved to your computer) by opening them in Windows Live Photo Gallery, copying them individually, and then pasting them in Paint. Then use the "Text" tool to add the message for the card.

Unusual Christmas Card Theme

Create a funny Christmas card that will make the recipient smile. Design a card with your family dressed in Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts, with a festive holiday message or a funny one above or below your image.

Create a card that consists of just one blown-up funny photo from the past year, such as your baby making a face or your dog licking the family bird. Add a small amount of text over-top of the photo. The bigger a funny photo is, the funnier it seems.

Children's Christmas Card

Helping a child create their own Christmas card will put both you and your children in the Christmas spirit. Have older children use a basic computer program, like Paint, to create a drawing of the family. Incorporate these graphics files into a card template and print. Or have the kids create a more traditional card using construction paper, crayons, markers and other materials--like stars, fabric or glitter. Instruct them to draw the family or what family means to them.
