Fall Outdoor Birthday Party Ideas

After the dog days of summer, the cool crispness of fall is a welcome respite. If your birthday happens to land during the fall season, you are in luck. Make your plans now to have a festive fall party. Does this Spark an idea?

Set the Stage

Outdoor fall parties have a great advantage when it comes to backgrounds. What can compare with the glorious variety of color nature provides us? Set your dining and cake tables up close to the shelter of the trees in your yard. Be sure and spray for pests a few days in advance. This will cut down on spiders and bugs. Don't place your tables directly under the trees. The branches overhead of your table will create a lovely backdrop for your party. Alternatively you could have your party in a pergola or outdoor tea room. Those types of structures are roofless so they allow you and your guests to enjoy nature's beauty.

Lighting

Nothing says fall quite like glowing candles.Hang candle holders from the branches of your trees and more holders to set on your tables. Brass candle holders with glass coverings and lids are one type of candle holder.

If you hold your outdoor birthday party at dusk, you could take advantage of the sunset and still have twinkling candlelights. String some novelty lights in your outdoor structure if you are using one. We love the look of novelty lights covered with plastic leaves. Or you could buy strings of Chinese lanterns. Whatever type of candle or lighting you use, it should be covered and protected from the wind.

Table Accesories

Fall outdoor birthday parties should have fun, autumn inspired accessories. Use real or imitation pumpkins as placeholders for guests. Use cornucopias and distinctive looking squash as your centerpieces. Cover tables with table clothes in rich fall colors of green, gold or red. Tie a sash around the birthday person's chair. A shiny gold sash tied into the shape of a bow will make the birthday person feel special. Place little glass dishes of candy corns and candy pumpkins on the table.

Fall Games

Plan some fall games for your birthday party. Try a corn shucking contest where guests see who can shuck dry corn the fastest. Apple bobbing is a fall tradition. Place apples in a galvanized bucket with clean water and let guests bob for apples. For children, a fun activity would be to make caramel apples at their table.
