Decorating Ideas For A Baby Shower In An Outdoor Tent

Decorate with balloon arches over the tops of special tables.

Preparing for a baby shower can be just as much fun as the shower itself, and the decoration planning and preparation comprise a great deal of that fun. The shower host can create a spectacular party decor in an outdoor tent with colorful twinkling lights, diaper cake centerpieces and decorated food and beverage tables. Balloons, silk or fresh flowers and even baby clothing items can all be used to decorate the tent with some planning and some easy-to-follow instructions.

Baby Shower Balloon Arch

Decorate a special spot in the tent with a balloon arch made of balloons in colors to match the shower theme. To make the balloon arch, inflate an 11-inch balloon and tie off the end. Insert the end into the first hole on the balloon decoration strip. Inflate another balloon and repeat the step until the balloon decoration strip reaches the length you would like. For a 9-foot-long and 9-foot-high balloon arch, the balloon-covered strip should reach a length of 13.5 feet. Use a ribbon to attach the balloon strip to a heavy balloon weight and then wrap the weight in foil paper. Tie the paper closed at the top with a ribbon bow. Attach and decorate another balloon weight to hold down the other end of the balloon strip. Attach a 12-inch teddy bear to the balloon weight by wrapping a ribbon around the weight and the bear. Attach another teddy bear on the other side as well. Place the balloon arch over the top of the gift table to make it a baby shower focal point.

Balloon Pacifiers

Suspend balloon pacifiers from the tent ceiling. To make these, inflate a long, thin balloon while grasping the very tip to keep that part from inflating. You can use regular air or you can use helium to create balloon pacifiers that can float around. Tie the open end of the balloon and then tie it to the non-inflated tip of the balloon to form a circular shape. Inflate a 16-inch balloon and tie the end. Connect the end of the 16-inch balloon to the tied ends of the long balloon by tying them together and then wrapping a small elastic around them to make sure they stay together. Inflate a thick, long balloon to a length of approximately 8 inches while pinching the tip to keep it from inflating. Wrap the ends around the elastic on the two connected balloons to create the finished pacifier.

Baby Shower Clothesline

Decorate the length of one of the tent walls with a clothesline from which are suspended baby items that you can give to the mother-to-be after the shower. Hang a strand of colored twine along the length of one of the tent walls. Use colored clothespins that match the party decor to hang baby blankets that have been folded to make medium-size squares. Hang the blankets at least 2 feet apart and fit other items in between. Use the clothespins to hang onesies, centered in between the blankets. Hang baby hats, booties and other baby clothing items in between the onesies and the blankets.
