Creative Ideas For A Bridal Shower

The opening of the gifts is a highlight of a bridal shower.

A bridal shower is a time for the female friends and family members of the bride to gather together and celebrate the upcoming wedding. A typical bridal shower will have refreshments, games and gift openings as entertainment. To make your bridal shower memorable, put a fresh spin on the classic ideas. This will give the guests and bride alike an entertaining and special experience.

Shower Themes

Many weddings today have themes that tie together the decorations, food choices, music and favors. Choose a creative theme for the bridal shower to catch the attention of guests as well as coordinate all aspects of the shower. The theme for a bridal shower can be much less formal and more fun and even sillier than that of a wedding theme. Throw a retro or 80s-themed bridal shower, complete with neon color schemes, boom box music, period clothing and trivia games. Have a whimsical and fairytale-like shower for the princess bride with a Disney theme. Hold a tea party, complete with fine china, glittery centerpieces, miniature glass slippers on the place settings and princess-quality favors of makeup kits, nail polish and hair accessories. Coordinate the theme with the personality of the bride.

Gift Opening Race

Instead of having guests sit formally sitting in a circle, watching as the bride opens her gifts one at a time, turn the gift opening into a game where guests are involved in the event. Divide the guests into teams and divide all the gifts among the teams. Set a stop watch and have the guests race to see which team can open the most guests without misplacing the cards that coincide with the gifts. Award the winning team with a prize.

Favors

In lieu of the common and traditional favors of cookies, candy and candles, create a novel and entertaining favor option. Buffets and self-serve bars that feature make-your-own favors let your gets individualize their treats. Incorporate this idea into your shower favors. Create a makeup buffet for guests, with bowls filled with eye shadows, miniature nail polishes, emery boards, eye liners and lip gloss. Create a toiletry-style buffet with dishes filled with lotions, exfoliating gloves, lip balms, bath salts, miniature body sprays and manicure kits. Provide guests with a bag and invite them to help themselves.

Refreshments

Instead of serving mimosas, create a milk shake and sundae station where an attendant creates the drink or treat of choice for the guests. Give the ladies a taste of their childhood with root beer floats, milkshakes and smoothies served in martini glasses and beer mugs. If you are intent on serving alcohol, offer guests the option of having a flavored liquor, such as chocolate or an Irish cream added to their frozen beverage. Give guests the option of creating their own sundaes as well with gallons of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream on hand with a choice of toppings. Serve the sundaes in elegant martini glasses or in old-fashioned sundae dishes.
