Cupcake Cake Decorating Ideas

Not only are cupcakes a fun alternative to a traditional sheet cake, but they have several advantages. They are already separated into equal portion sizes, so you don't need to worry about cutting up a cake. They are easy to transport, and you can make them in several different flavors. You can also decorate cupcakes to complement any type of theme or party. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Birthday Party

Cupcakes are a good choice for birthday parties because they are so easy to serve. Think about the theme for your party and choose an image or object that will complement that theme. For a cowboy theme, you could decorate the cupcakes with cowboy boots, hats and stars. For a pirate theme, decorate the cupcakes like a pile of coins or draw a pirate face out of frosting. For a princess party, decorate the cupcakes with crowns and jewels.

Team or Sports Party

Whether you are bringing a treat for your child's sports team or planning a sports-themed party, these cupcakes will be a hit. Decorate the cupcakes to look like footballs, soccer balls, basketballs, tennis balls, golf balls or baseballs. Ice the cupcakes the appropriate color and use a thin tip to pipe on the details. Use a real ball as a reference.

Graduation Party

Celebrate your graduate with these fun cupcake ideas. Spread a thin layer of melted chocolate onto waxed paper. When the chocolate has hardened, cut it into diamond shapes about 3 inches long. Decorate the cupcakes to look like a face. Attach the diamond on top of the head and make a tassel out of frosting. You can also make a diploma by rolling up a small piece of paper and tying it with gold, black or red ribbon. Frost the cupcakes with a solid color, sprinkle with edible glitter and put the diploma on top.

Halloween Party

These spooky cupcakes will thrill your Halloween party guests. To make eyeball cupcakes, cover the tops with white frosting. Use a large round tip to pipe a large, flat ball of purple frosting in the center of the cupcake followed by a smaller black ball on top. Add red veins around the iris. To make jack-o'-lantern cupcakes, cover the tops with orange frosting. Use black and yellow frosting to add the details of the face.

Baby Shower

Babies bring a smile to just about anyone's face, and so will these cupcakes. Make a rattle by frosting the cupcakes white and adding a few stripes and dots for decoration. Attach white lifesaver candies to lolly-pop sticks with melted white chocolate. Stick the end of each lolly-pop stick into the edge of a cupcake to make the handle. You can also make booties by using a large round tip to pipe two narrow ovals side-by-side on top of each cupcake. Add a circle at one end of each oval to make the top of the booties. Pipe bows onto the booties with a small round tip.
