Desserts That Use Canned Crushed Pineapple

Berries from pineapple plants fuse together to form pineapples.

The sweet taste and firm texture of pineapple makes it an ideal addition to various types of desserts. Buying crushed, canned pineapple is easier than using whole pineapples, and whether used in frosting, toppings or within the mix, crushed pineapple adds to the depth of flavor in cakes, ice cream, puddings and pastries. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Cakes

Jazz up your next carrot cake by adding canned, crushed pineapple to the mix.

Adding crushed pineapple to carrot cake recipes results in a dessert that takes your sweet tooth through a flavorful journey of tastes and textures. For a lighter treat, adjust the liquid in your favorite angel food cake recipe to make room for a sprinkling of crushed pineapple and a dash of vanilla, topping the finished product off with a pineapple glaze made from the juice drained out of the can of crushed pineapple.

Ice Cream

Ice cream machines make it easy to experiment at home with different pineapple ice cream recipes.

Ice cream takes on a new level of flavor when made with canned, crushed pineapple. Mix it in shortly before your ice cream sets or soften prepared ice cream just enough to stir in the pineapple pieces. Use a simple glaze made from canned, crushed pineapple, lemon, honey and water to top off vanilla, almond or mango flavored ice cream. Modernize the classic banana split recipe with the three ice cream flavors mentioned above and top the scoops with alternating mixes of strawberries and whipped cream, chocolate fudge topping and crushed pineapple mixed with praline pecans.

Puddings

Create a pistachio flavored pudding parfait layered with sweetened crushed pineapple, whipped topping and pistachio nuts. Pineapple pineapple pudding recipes exist in numerous variations and provide spectacular visual effects when served in clear wine glasses. Find a recipe that suits your tastes and experiment with the flavors to find your favorite combination. Macadamia nuts go well with pineapple for toppings on these desserts. Substitute commonly used nuts such as walnuts and almonds with chopped macadamia nuts and crushed pineapple to keep the flavor light and add a hint of the exotic to your pudding desserts.

Pastries and Cookies

A cup of hot tea pairs well with pineapple Kolache for a light dessert.

Heap pastry cups full with filling made from canned, crushed pineapple and bake. Use a small amount of the same filling in Kolaches for a burst of flavor and serve these small, light desserts with tea or iced coffee. Switch up sweet time by serving warm, soft cookies made with caramelized crushed pineapple and a hint of vanilla. Top off frosted cookies with bits of crushed pineapple just before serving to add color and enhance the flavor of the frosting.
