Decorating Ideas For Tropical Parties

Having a tropical-themed party is perfect for birthdays, summer gatherings or even a winter gathering to take people's minds off the dreary weather outside. While decorating for any theme party takes time and planning, a tropical theme is one of the easier themes to put together. It's not difficult to turn any room or backyard into a tropical paradise that will have guests talking for years to come. Does this Spark an idea?

Walkway/Entryway

As soon as guests arrive they should feel like they are entering a tropical paradise. In order to achieve this, the walkway and/or entry to the house should be decorated as well. Place Tiki lights in the ground surrounding the walkway to provide light, as well as to add to the tropical atmosphere. You also can use small wooden signs outside to show the guests where to go. Use balloons in tropical colors, like pink, yellow, orange, lime green and turquoise, to decorate an entryway or attach them to a wooden sign outside. Place inflatable palm trees at the door or right inside the entryway. If there is a porch, hang lanterns in tropical colors or a strand of colorful Christmas lights from the top of the porch. As guests arrive, supply them with leis, so that they can get into the tropical mood.

Party Area

You can use various things to decorate the party area. Streamers, balloons and table linens should be in tropical colors, like pink, purple, yellow, orange and turquoise, to keep with the tropical theme. Purchase tropical-colored lanterns from Oriental Trading Company or a similar store, and hang them above the dance floor to add light. String white Christmas lights throughout the party area as the main source of lighting. Strategically place beach towels around, and put things like sun tan lotion, magazines and sunglasses on them for additional decoration. Blow up beach balls and throw them throughout the party area. Inflatable palm trees and an inflatable Tiki pole can add to the decor as well.

Food and Drink Tables

Decorate the food and drink tables to fit the tropical theme. Start with a bright tropical-colored tablecloth over the tables. Then hang grass table skirts around the tables. Food dishes should be in bright tropical colors as well. Set coconut glasses out for guests to drink from. Pull the flower pedals off of some leis to place on the table around the dishes.
