Decorating Supplies For A Birthday Party

Decorating supplies are a necessity for a fun birthday party.

Whether you are having a small birthday party in your home, or renting a large venue for a huge celebration, you will want to have all the decorating supplies you need to suit the occasion. If the party will be a surprise, you'll want to make sure the guest of honor is delighted when he walks into the room. Your local party supply store will have a range of supplies, or browse the Internet for what you need. Does this Spark an idea?

Wall Decorations

A birthday party won't feel complete without a cheerful "Happy birthday" sign pinned to the wall.

Wherever you are holding your birthday party, decorate the walls to add to the party atmosphere. Basic decorating supplies for the walls include banners, which may be general "Happy Birthday" banners or age-specific (i.e. 16th, 18th, 21st); streamers; and wire garlands--all of which are available in different colors and motifs. For large-scale wall decorations, look for background paper or tulle decorating material in a variety of colors. Tulle can be draped and pinned to walls and ceilings to add dimension to the party venue.

Table Decorations

Balloons are available in any color you desire.

Helium-filled balloons make popular table centerpieces; rent or purchase a canister of helium from your local party supply store, or hire a company to create the balloon arrangements for you. Depending on the size of the table, arrangements of three, five or seven balloons will create a focal point and add interest to the party venue as a whole. Balloons come in every possible color and in general or age-specific "happy birthday" prints.

Themed Decorations

Leis add a tropical punch to any Hawaiian party.

If the birthday party has a theme, you can really use your imagination when it comes to the decorating supplies. Take a Hawaiian themed birthday party, for example: Tropical decorating ideas include inflatable palm trees, raffia flowered table skirts, leis hung from the walls (which guests can take down and wear to get into the party spirit), and cutouts of hula dancers, exotic birds, pineapples and coconuts to pin to the walls. Novelty items include inflatable beach balls, parasol umbrellas, a bamboo limbo kit and lifesize photo props, which provide great photo opportunities as guests assume the appearance of hula dancers and surfers.
