Cute Hair Colors & Styles

Whether you are going back to school or college, or just looking to update your look, the good news is that there is a wider range of hair style and color choices than ever before. With advances in technology, hair extensions have even allowed shorter-haired women to sport longer locks for special occasions. If you are stumped for ideas, here are a few to get you started. Does this Spark an idea?

Long and Curly

Celebrities such as Miley Cyrus have a natural, long hair look that anyone can achieve. Even short-haired women can get a long and loose, curly look with extensions. Miley's hair is rarely cut, except for trims to control split ends. To achieve her look, roll wet hair in sponge curlers or rag rollers and let dry using a bonnet-style hair dryer. Set with gel, and then soften with a wide-toothed comb.

Short and Curly

Amy Lee, lead singer for the band Evanescence, has been known for her long, curly, gothic locks. However, the singer recently cut her hair into a short, curly bob that emulates the flapper style of the 1920s. The fact that this is a trendy look is bolstered by other celebrities, such as Selma Hayek, who are emulating the short curly look by pinning up their longer tresses into a low updo that makes them look as if they had their hair cut.

The Bobbed Haircut

Around Hollywood, the bob is coming back in a big way. Trendsetters such as Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham are all sporting newly short, sleek cuts, while longer bobs are being highlighted by women such as Gwyneth Paltrow.

Brunette

While women such as Jessica Simpson are known for their California girl good looks, so many others are going darker that in many ways, brown is the new blond. Simpson's younger sister, Ashlee, deliberately dyed her hair brown to set her apart from her older sister. Other women who have gone from blond to brown include Madonna, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Cameron Diaz.

Blond

While some stars are trading in their blond locks for a brunette look, others are going blond for the summer. A sun-kissed look can be achieved without going completely platinum with the use of subtle blond highlights. Stars like Drew Barrymore who are naturally brunette select honey blond highlights and leave their lowlights a natural brunette color. Softening and lightening medium tones helps to keep the highlights from standing out, and extends the time in between touch-ups.
