Decoration Ideas For Wedding Receptions

Red and white go together well for a traditionally themed wedding reception.

One of the most enjoyable times of a wedding day occurs directly after the nuptials. Wedding receptions are times to party with family and friends in celebration of a newly formed marriage. Get creative with your decorations to show off your personality and taste, and make the night a memorable one.

Color Scheme

Choose two or three complementary colors that you enjoy and use them as the base for your wedding's decor scheme. For instance, you may decide to use red and silver if you wish to evoke a romantic feel, green with splashes of yellow for a spring theme, or black and white for a non-traditional approach. Once you have selected your colors, use those colors in your entire decorating scheme, from tablecloths to cake icing.

Table Decorations

Each table should be decorated with a lovely centerpiece that reflects your chosen color scheme and style. If you are seeking to evoke a romantic or traditional theme, set bouquets of flowers complementary to your color scheme on each guest table. As a more whimsical idea, intersperse votive candles between small flower bouquets arranged around the center of the table to create a soft glow. To get even more creative, use giant vases as fish bowls to really impress your guests.

Lighting

Hang Chinese lanterns from the ceiling at varying heights for a soft, romantic glow. If you are marrying around Christmas time, incorporate the spirit of the season in your lighting by hanging beautifully colored Christmas lights around the tables. At any other time of year, white hanging lights are appropriate as lighting.

Ceiling/Doors

Drape flower garlands or soft sheets of tulle over door entrances and around banisters and pillars to add a touch of sophistication to the venue.
