Decorations Of Hawaii

Hawaiian-themed parties are easy to decorate.

If you would like to put on a special party that your friends and family will long remember, use the foods and culture of Hawaii as your theme. To make the event more memorable, adorn the party area with traditional Hawaiian-looking decorations. These decorations can be simple or elaborate, depending on your needs and the time and money you want to spend. Does this Spark an idea?

Grass Skirts

A charming way to decorate the tables and the walls is to use grass skirts. Grass skirts can be ordered online if you can't find them locally, so plan ahead. Although you can simply hang the skirts on the wall as they are, you also can divide the skirts and then tape them around your tables and one wall. Larger tables probably will require several skirts, while the walls might require a dozen or more. If you happen to have some real or fake magnolia blossoms, they would look lovely attached to the bottoms of the skirts.

Homemade Leis

The lei is probably the most well-known Hawaiian decoration, so you certainly will want to have some. You don't have to use real flowers, since plastic, silk or paper ones that you can purchase from a craft store will serve the purpose. Encircle table legs, columns and more with your leis. You also can hang long strings of these across the ceiling, just above the guests' heads.

Palm Frond Shades

Even indoors, you might want to make use of large standing palm fronds. In the islands, they might be used for shade, but for your purposes they can serve as both decoration and space dividers. To make them appear to be standing, place one end in a potted plant and attach the other end to the ceiling by monofilament.

Fruit Display

One fun and enjoyable decoration you can create can serve a dual purpose. An assortment of fruits and nuts native to Hawaii or the tropics in general will be pleasing to the eye and the palate. These fruit treats should be ones associated with Hawaii, such as slices of pineapple, bananas, guava, mango and papaya. Around the fruit tray you can stack whole versions of these fruits, adding coconuts as well.

Tiki Torches

If your event is being held outside, and especially if it is at night, you should add some tiki torches. A few of these sticking in the ground around your party space will create the ambiance you are looking for. But do not use them inside or near any flammable materials.
